the dentist

Come now children, gather in close.
I will tell you the tale of a frightening ghost.

His name? Doctor Duvall, D.D.S.
And one day of the year brought him great unrest.
"All Hallows Eve, that accursed night,"
"The ghouls, the monsters, the tumulus frights!"
He paused then in his speech, grabbing words that explain,
"And most of all, that wretched candy, it's enough to drive a dentist insane!"

And insane the once-good dentist had become,
as he formulated a plan he found oh-so-fun!
"I am sick of the candy related surgeries, cavities, and just plain nasty,"
"These children can decide their fate by choosing whether or not to eat candy!"

On the way home the unstable man,
stopped by the market for his devious plan.
He picked out the most delicious chocolates along with some apples,
he then grabbed a shiny bag of razorblades...my child, why do you tremble?

as the night drew close, he places each apple in a basket with care,
and to each sweet chocolate, a razorblade snare.
A ring of the doorbell, children outside,
"Finally!" he shouted "It is finally time!"

He held out each basket to the little ghosts,
"Why hello my dear spooks, which treat would you like most?"
At the end of the night, his light went out,
two baskets he carried, only one still filled to the spout.

Later that night, as he lay in his bed,
"They made their choice," he thought "chocolate the price of the teeth in their heads!"

Sirens roared in the distance, a call of his name,
the police were here, he had lost his game.
a knife, from the bedside table, he held to his mouth,
and only he fell after each of his own teeth he pulled out.



So you see, my dear children, as you go out this halloween,
make your choices well, or a toothless ghost you may just meet.
